Pittsburgh Pirates Manager.
“When Danny was playing second base for the Pirates from 1948 through 1951 he didn’t imagine he’d someday be managing the club. When Danny did become Pittsburgh’s field manager midway through the 1957 season, the club was hopelessly stuck in seventh place. By 1960 the Pirates had improved so rapidly that they store the National League pennant from the favored Dodgers. Under the hands of their fiery manager, Pittsburgh defeated the New York Yankees in a toughly fought 7 game World Series and Danny was named “Manager of the Year.” Since breaking into baseball, the ex-infielder was always a top competitor. After several good seasons in the minors, including a .317 batting mark in the Texas League, Danny was brought up by the Phillies.”
